Ufulu Festival Countdown underway with Ufulu Fridays

Lilongwe, 2022 Mana: The countdown to Ufulu Festival slated for July 6 is underway with the organizers of the event hosting Ufulu Fridays until the day of the event.

Speaking during first gathering of the Ufulu Friday, Event organizer Pastor Humphreys Mkandawire said that he is glad the festival is back after a two-year break.

“We have not had the public celebrations of the Ufulu festival because it was difficult to do anything in the past two years as a result Covid 19 pandemic however this year we are back with the event at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

We have started with Ufulu Fridays, which will happen once a month therefore the next meeting will be on the 27th may followed by another on the 17th June,” Mkandawire said.

He further highlighted the plans Ufulu festival had before the Covid pandemic struck and the alternatives that were used.

“Ufulu 2020 had a massive plan we wanted to have it in all three regions in the country but all that was halted by the Covid 19 pandemic however last year a successful online festival dubbed the virtual experience was conducted, “Mkandawire added.

Ufulu Fridays is a platform that aims at promoting and supporting artists and creative’s in Malawi and present during the first Ufulu Friday were Poet Dark Shadow, George Kalukusha, Praise Umali, Eve the Painter and headline performer Eliyah Black.

Eliyah Black who launched his Extended Playlist (EP)on the night said that he enjoyed his session stating that he was thankful for such a platform.

“The performance was good I enjoyed the platform as I launched my EP titled Made for love, which is available in CD format and will eventually be available online, “Black said.

Eve the painter, did live painting throughout parts of the event; auctioning some of the finished Art work that were bought at a fine tune of more than Mk70,000 by Qabaniso Malewezi and Pastor Humphreys Mkandawire with the proceed to be used in organising the event.


Ufulu festival which was started in 2014 is a musical festival organised by Flood Church in order to celebrate Malawian independence, it exists to celebrate culture, creativity and freedom.
