Soul Studio Malawi to host visual art Paint and Sip

By Beatrice Ligomeka

Blantyre, May 26, Mana: Soul Studio Malawi has organised Paint and Sip event at Joes Café in Blantyre as one way of promoting visual art in the country.

Paint and sip enable professional artists to provide step-by-step instructions to reproduce a pre-selected work of art while they drink wine or other beverages.

The event is scheduled to take place on 1st June, 2023.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency on Friday, Soul Studio Manager Promise Nkhono said visual art has potential to drive tourism growth and create wealth for the country through different art exhibitions.

“This event will help people to learn from professional visual artists and use the skills to practice on their own as a form of entrepreneurship thereby promoting the social-economic growth of the country.” she said.

Nkhono further added that the event will help those attending to uncover their natural talents in sketching and illustration, skills that are not offered in many schools in the country.

In his remarks, Visual Arts Association of Malawi (VAAM) President Gilbert Mpakule said visual art is part of innovation that can decrease unemployment rate and promote tourist attraction which can help the country to minimize shortage of forex.

“People should take part in these paint and sip events to promote the visual arts as the industry is going down due to poor consideration and patronage in such events.” he said.

Mpakule then urged stakeholders to work hand in hand with government as one way of creating an international platform where visual artists can sell their products.
