Blantyre, Mana: Malawi Queens coach, Peace Kaluwa Chawinga has described the performance of her side as impressive ahead of their big tournament in the Commonwealth to be staged in England.
The Queens pruned Namibia 60-23 in a Cosana Tri-Nations Games official opening Match, at the College of Medicine Sports Complex on Sunday evening.
In her post match interview, Chawinga said she was impressed and said a positive result like that one of Sunday will give confidence to her players as they are also gearing up for the Commonwealth games.
“It’s encouraging and l must say that lam so impressed with the performance and this will be also a morale booster ahead of the Commonwealth games,” said Chawinga.
Chawinga also slated her troops for a coming back hard on the third and last quarter of the match.
“In the first quarter we kicked off the game on a slow pace but we managed to pick up in the third and last quarter, “she said.
The Queens, who are without the duo Mwawi Kumwenda and Joyce Mvula were on cloud nine as the likes of Jane Chimaliro, Takondwa Lwazi and Towera Vinkhumbo put up a gallant fight.
In other matches, Zimbabwe started the tournament on a high with a 48-36 win.
