Promising From New Music Generations— JEG

Jeg has been in the game for long enough with hit songs that have topped radio charts namely Short guy, Kodi, do like I do, Mwabwera Mwabwera to mention a few.

Rapper/Dancer birth name Joy Genneth Gondwe grew up in Blantyre Manja before moving to Lilongwe and Mzuzu city He has always had passion for music mostly because his family used to get together to sing on occasions.

The rapper started recording music when he went to Blantyre for attachments in 2016 at the time he was schooling at NRC in Lilongwe. On his first day he recorded three songs and released all at once because he was under no management.

Jeg who is an adventist was not allowed to listen to western secular music growing up because of the bad languages used in the songs. He listened to gospel music the likes of Don moen, Micheal W smith and Bucci. Later on he found a taste in Afro music when he got to listen to Nigerian rappers Ice Prince, MI Abaga and other artists in chocolate city label.

Jeg’s mother started to disapprove of Jeg’s music worried that it would interfere with his education but they had to come to an agreement that he would be recording his music during holidays and management can handle releasing of the songs even when his school is in progress.

Jeg’s single titled mwabwera mwabwera featuring Riffle Dynamic was premiered on Made on Monday program on MBC radio 2 last week. The song was produced by Jay emm and it talks about a catchphrase “mwabwera mwabwera” that most youth are using to express different situations. It is yet to have a music video.

Jeg has faced challenges in music which he has dealt with by believing God and in himself to make things possible. He says one of the problems he has is getting a large audience to listen to his music. “We are having artists rising almost everyday” says Jeg, “it is not easy to get people’s full  attention”.

Jeg is studying Irrigation Engineering at Bunda university in his fourth year.

He prays for all his singles before releasing and he still sings in the choir despite recording secular music.
