By Ethel Sakala

Youth Initiative for Community Development (YICOD) has embarked on a free computer literacy programme to enable community members utilise Information Communication Technology (ICT) services.

YICOD’s Executive Director Andrew Bwanali said in an interview Friday that the initiative was introduced after the noting that most youths, especially those based in remote areas, did not know how to use a computer.

“We started with 15 students and now we have 63 learners. Many youths are interested in this programme because it is free,” Bwanali said.

“With the availability of resources, we intend to scale up and see more youths in the district being able to use computers and access information relevant to their day to day lives,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries Tamara Banda hailed YICOD for enriching her and other students with computer skills that they will use even after completing secondary school.
