Mangochi, January 6, Mana: Mangochi has adopted a new model in Covid-19 response which would see Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs) closely monitoring Covid-19 patients to contain further transmission of the virus.
Chief Preventive Health Officer for the district, Dr. Kondwani Mamba, disclosed the adoption of the new model on Tuesday when he updated the media in the district on current Covid-19 prevalence.
Mamba expressed hope that the new model will help contain the second wave of the virus known as 501.V2.
“We have developed this model of attaching an HSA to a case to promote adherence to preventive measures by controlling movement of the infected persons in their community thereby reducing transmission of the pandemic,” he said
Mamba said Mangochi had zero active case of Covid-19 towards end November, 2020 but currently has 24 active cases and 155 recoveries while the total number of cases recorded in the district is now 181, with 2 deaths.
The Chief Preventive Health Officer expressed concerns over the increase in number of new cases.
“It is worrisome that the cases are more than what we expected,” said Mamba while appalling to people in the district to adhere to all COVID-19 preventive measures adding that “the pandemic is not over”
Out of the 181 recorded cases of Covid-19, 145 cases are in-district, according to Mangochi District Health Office,
The district health office will also fumigate primary schools is the district to contain the pandemic.
