Machinga, Mana: Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD) has been awarded a certificate under best partner performance recognition by Machinga District Council in the area of agriculture, environment and natural resources.

Speaking during the award ceremony, Machinga District Council Chairperson, Alexander Shoti said CARD has been recognized as a partner which has performed well in the district in the year 2021.

He said among the 12 organisations working in the area of agriculture, environment and natural resources, CARD has proved to the Council and to communities by delivering the much needed development.

Shoti said CARD has been very transparent and accountable throughout the implementation of various programmes in the district.

The Chairperson said the Council decided to start assessing the partners including government sectors after realizing that when the performance was not up to the standards, it affects quality service delivery.

“As any other district, Machinga has a District Development Plan which any partner including the government needs to tap their projects or development which serves the purpose of the communities.

“We have had organisations implementing projects in the district but with very little success. Some partners even fail to account for funds for projects implemented in the district,” he added.

Shoti said CARD has so far demonstrated an example which all partners including government sectors should emulate for the Council to make progress in development activities.

“This is the first of its kind in Machinga to award a best performing partner; this initiative should energize all of us. Let me applaud District Commissioner (DC), Rosemary Nawasha for her leadership which is driving the district in the right direction,” he said.

Receiving the award of best performance, Executive Director for CARD, Melton Luhanga said the organization was humbled with the award considering that CARD was relatively new in the district, saying they did not expect to be selected as the best performing partner.

“We are happy that we have been recognized for the good work and our transparency in doing things. We did not see this happening to us. Machinga is a very interesting district and we promise to continue working in it,” he said.

Machinga District Agriculture Extension Coordination Committee Chairperson, Belinda Chimombo said the recognition of the best performing partners with help other organisations to improve; thereby, bringing competition among partners for the benefit of Machinga residents.

“What the council has started doing is very commendable as far as district development is concerned. This initiative of awarding or recognizing best performers will motivate other organisations to up their games to get recognition,” she said.
