Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale has urged newly recruited Farm Bussines Consultants by the Ministry to execute their duties professionally to effectively complement the Mega Farm implementation.
He made the remarks on Monday when he presided over the official training of Farm Bussiness Consultants at the Mega Farm Unit office in Kanengo, Lilongwe.
Kawale commended the Mega Farm Unit for facilitating the training, saying the move will help several farms obtain funds from financial institutions through the initiative and manage their agribusiness efficiently.
He urged the consultants, who are graduates from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources(Luanar) to align themselves with the MW2063 to complement the government’s effort in achieving the Mega Farm implementation.
Luanar Vice Chancellor Professor Emmanuel Kaunda said the university will continue its effort to make the Mega Farms initiative a reality through various forms of collaboration with the government.
He commended the Ministry of Agriculture for the good gesture of engaging Luanar in the implementation of mega farms across the country, saying the move will help minimise the productivity challenges of smallholder farmers in the country.
Controller of Agriculture Extension and Technical Services in the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Alfred Mwenifumbo, commended the United Nations Development Programme for their unwavering support towards the programme.
He said the training will help farmers to solicit funds from financial institutions, implement farm management systems and develop business plans for the effectiveness of high crop productivity.
