Malawi international netball player, Joyce Mvula last Saturday 11th May 2019 led her team Manchester Thunder to qualify for the grand final of the UK National Vitality Netball League. The finals are scheduled for this coming Saturday 18th May 2019 at the Copperbox Arena in London.
Manchester Thunder booked a place in the final after beating Team Bath 57 – 54 in a thrilling encounter at home. Joyce fittingly led her lines and made sure that all the balls in her hand were converted into goals which made the packed Thunderdome at Wright Robinson Sports Village centre to go wild into celebrations.
The win and qualification for the grand finals was quite a fair result for Thunder who saw their good run in the league wain off towards the final games. In fact in the recent past they had to contend with a painful loss under the same team, Team Bath. Team Bath are not push overs as half their team is composed of England Rose internationals in the names of Serena Guthrie and Eboni Usero-Brown just to mention two.
In the finals, Joyce Mvula’s Manchester Thunder team are pegged against defending champions Wasps Netball team who in their semi finals had to see off a resilient Loughborough Lightening Netball team with 74 – 54. The game will be beamed live on Sky TV Sports and on their Youtube stream for all those wanting to watch outside the UK.
Watching the semi final game, one would observe that Joyce Mvula’s play has matured and is more strategic suiting any counters by opposition teams. This why she has been nominated for the league’s Player of the season accolade which voting is now open.
