President Prof. Peter Mutharika has said his government wants to make sure that secondary education to basic education in the country.
He said this Friday during the 2019 youth Innovation Awards held at Bingu International Convention centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Mutharika noted that in order to achieve this, his government has made secondary education free to enable every youth in the country to have an opportunity to receive secondary education.
“Expect five more years of free secondary education. We are building 250 more secondary schools in every part of the country. On average, every district will get seven more secondary schools staring from this year,” he outlined.
The President said this means government would employ secondary school teachers as another way of creating more jobs in the country.
Mutharika said the initiative would provide an opportunity to very child who finishes primary school would go to secondary school.
He pointed out that government is creating a digital generation to give Malawi fast, affordable and accessible internet on smart phones and everywhere.
“That is the future where belong, for this reason, we are installing fibre optic network reaching out to rural trading centres, villages and cities,” Malawi leader stated.
He said government is providing loans to the Youth in order to empower them to create own businesses after getting skills.
“We are constructing community technical colleges to create a skilled youth for Malawi. We are empowering the youth with skills because I want to teach you how to fish instead of giving you fish.
As a skilled youth, you will be creating your jobs, creating your own businesses and creating jobs for others,” Mutharika added.
The President said government has doubled the investment in student loans to allow more needy students to access university education in the country.
Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, Grace Chiumia appealed to Malawians to continue giving support to the President in order fulfill his development agenda for the country.
She pointed out that people should not continue being doubting Thomas in the leadership of President Mutharika who is geared to continue developing the country further.
